Meet Louann Zacarias a Marketing major at Penn State graduating this May of 2021. She has been interning with Smeal Club Philly since January of 2020 and believes she found out about the position through Nittany Lion Careers. On a day to day basis, she creates graphics via Canva for event promotions and spotlight Sunday’s. From there, she utilizes Buffer to schedule such posts on the two most used platforms; LinkedIn and Facebook. She constantly connects with Smeal Club Philly’s President, Marissa Presser, and other members who can offer assistance with the communications. Through her team is where she finds out about what events to create promotions for. With all of this information, she creates a monthly newsletter via MailChimp, which gets distributed to 1500+ subscribers.
She would recommend this position for any student looking for experience in social media marketing. This position is where she was first exposed to Canva, Buffer, and MailChimp, and now has become an expert with these platforms. She began this position during her Spring semester of Junior year, and the 5-10 hours was definitely manageable with her schedule. Due to enjoying her workload and the team that she worked with, she extended her internship into Summer 2020. Even while working two other part-time internships, she was still able to devote time to Smeal Club Philly, and the team was always cognizant of her workload. Overall, it was a great experience and the Communications Intern position is highly recommended to any student!
