Nittany Lion Careers is Penn State University’s new single-system recruiting platform for all students, alumni, and employers. Through this system, you can see jobs that companies are seeking to fill as well as workshops and information sessions employers are hosting on campus. It can be a bit difficult to get used to a new system, so here are three tips to make it easier:
- Fill out all the fields- not just the necessary ones. Certain fields such as your name are necessary. Other ones, such as GPA and work authorization status, are optional. To ensure that you appear when employers are searching for specific students, be sure to fill out as many fields as possible when creating your profile. That ensures, for example, that if employers are looking for a finance major with a GPA above 3.5 and you meet those criteria, you will appear. Future (potentially employed) you will appreciate it!
- Know how to sort your search results. Use the More Filters tab in the job search window to find jobs specifically for your major. Once open, scroll to the bottom of the search window and select More Filters again. Scroll down to the Majors/Concentrations to select your major.
- Keep an open mind when searching jobs. One of the biggest advantages of Nittany Lion Careers is that students are able to view and apply for any job. In the past, certain jobs were only visible to specific majors. Now, for example, even if you are a marketing major, you are now able to apply for jobs that were traditionally only visible to advertising or public relations majors.
