How to Prepare for the GMAT: Test Prep Resources

When you make the commitment to pursue graduate school, give yourself plenty of time to prepare for the exam. Some graduate schools require the GMAT, others prefer the GRE, and some programs accept either exam. Reviewing the admissions criteria for each program you are considering can help you determine which test to take. Not all programs accept only your highest test score. Some programs evaluate all submitted scores, while others average them. You may find How to Prepare a Graduate Business School Application Checklist helpful.

Choosing the right study materials depends on your learning style. Some test takers benefit from prep books and online resources, while others prefer in-person classes with instructors and personal advisors. Investing in preparatory materials can also help maintain accountability, as financial commitment often reinforces dedication.

You may need to spend more or less time preparing for the four sections in the GMAT.

  • Integrated Reasoning (IR) – 12 questions (30 minutes)
  • Quantitative Reasoning – 31 questions (62 minutes)
