Networking can seem scary especially when your parents are calling everyday to see if you’ve gotten a job yet. But it isn’t so scary if you prepare.
Here are 3 quick tips to ensure that you can be prepared for networking:
- Do your research.
- Before going to a career fair or networking event, make sure you search the company that you’re looking at. Get background information on their company culture, positions, and current news that they are involved in. This gives you things to talk about with recruiters and makes you stand out when you know a lot about their company.
- Do not rely on your resume.
- Make sure you have your resume on hand, but do not rely on it. When the recruiter asks you a question, maintain eye contact and answer with your own words. Do not read off your resume. Recruiters want to know that you can have a normal conversation with them.
- Be yourself.
- Do not try to be anybody else because if you do, you will be given the job/internship for the wrong reasons, and then you will potentially not be right for the job. If you want to love where you work, be yourself to make sure you’re a fit in the company.
After those things, you just have to stay confident. The right thing will come. Good luck!!
